A stern test

This fixture represents a major test for Oviedo, who sit ninth in the table with 17 points from ten games. They face a leader unbeaten at home, an Almería side on a run of seven consecutive league wins with 24 points. An away victory would cut the seven-point gap to the top and provide a huge boost to their promotion ambitions. The squad approaches the game in good spirits after back-to-back wins against Eibar and Ceuta, but must do so without key personnel. Julián Calero's team has shown solid recent form, averaging 65 minutes per game keeping the opponent from scoring, a defensive solidity that will be key against the best attack in the division.

Absences and tactical keys

Julián Calero will be forced to reshuffle his defence. Centre-back Carlos Domínguez, the team's top scorer with four goals, is suspended. Juan Cruz, Carlos Fernández, Chris Ramos and Ilyas Chaira are also out injured. For their part, Almería under Xavier García Pimienta have defensive absentees of their own, including Rodrigo Ely and Daijiro Chirino.

The Oviedo manager has asked his players to show personality and maintain defensive discipline against a powerful opponent. The keys will be stopping the home attack, exploiting transitions and controlling the midfield. Oviedo's last win at this ground came on 7 June 2025, a 1-2 victory with a Nacho Vidal brace in the promotion playoffs. The team aims to repeat that feat to stay in the fight for the top spots. The match in Almería is just the first in a decisive run of games on the fixtures list, which will continue the following week with another highly demanding duel against Racing de Ferrol at the Tartiere, a direct clash for the promotion places.
