Real Oviedo has signed Julián Calero as the new coach of the first team. The coach has experience in professional football and has managed teams like Levante UD. Julián Calero Fernández, 55, was born on October 26, 1970, in Parla (Madrid). The new coach developed his career as a footballer in different teams in the Madrid football league, including AD Parla or CF Fuenlabrada, competing in Tercera División and Segunda División B before retiring in 2000, an era that he combined with his work in the Madrid Municipal Police. His coaching career began in the youth team of Atlético de Madrid, before becoming assistant coach at Rayo Vallecano. He later managed the Juvenil del Real Madrid and was assistant coach of Real Madrid Castilla, starting a long career in professional football. His connection with Real Oviedo dates back to the 2016-17 season, when he was part of the technical staff as assistant coach under Fernando Hierro, so he already knows the entity, its working dynamics and the competitive environment of the club. He has managed teams like CF Rayo Majadahonda, Burgos CF, FC Cartagena or Levante UD, the latter achieving promotion to Primera División in the 2024-25 season. Additionally, he has been assistant coach in top-level clubs and selections like FC Porto and the Spanish National Team, accumulating international experience in top-level projects.
