Real Oviedo kicked off its new phase with the arrival of five players who passed their medical on July 3 and are set to train at El Requexón on Monday, July 6. Their goal, as the signings themselves said, is "to bring Oviedo back to where it belongs" in the fight for LaLiga survival.
Who are the new reinforcements?
Pablo Saénz, a winger who finished his contract with Granada, was the first to be announced. Jacobo, a free agent from Córdoba, arrives to add experience on the right flank. In midfield, Youness, the only signing in that area so far, stated that "we know what we represent and we want to try to bring them back to the category they were in". Aisar Ahmed, former Ceuta forward, joins the attack, while Samu Rodríguez, a left‑back bought from Alcorcón on a contract until 2029, completes the defence. All expressed enthusiasm and commitment during their visit to Clínica Asturias.
What does this reinforcement mean for the season?
The club is in a tough campaign: currently, Real Oviedo sits 20th in LaLiga with 29 points, 6 wins, 11 draws and 21 losses from 38 games, and carries a recent LLLDL run. With 26 goals scored and 60 conceded, the goal difference is –34, and the team is 65 points behind leaders Barcelona. The five new arrivals aim to shore up the defence and add creativity up front, areas that have been missing in recent matches.
What do the players expect from the project?
Youness highlighted the squad's ambition: "We are players who come with a lot of ambition to show we belong to a great entity." Aisar Ahmed described his signing as "an immense opportunity" and pledged to work toward the collective goal. Saénz expressed his desire to meet the fans and "get ready for the league". Jacobo added that the year will be "beautiful" if the team gives everything in each match. Finally, Rodríguez thanked the club for its trust and promised that "there will be no lack of effort or desire in any game".
What is the next step?
Manager Julián Calero has scheduled the first pre‑season session for Monday, July 6 at the El Requexón complex. There the new signings will blend with the existing squad to fine‑tune tactics and seek the cohesion needed before the campaign starts. The supporters, still waiting for results, hope the investment in these players translates into points and, above all, the club's survival in the top flight.
