Ilyas Chaira has returned to training with Real Oviedo but will not be available for this weekend's trip to Ceuta. The midfielder, sidelined for two months with a shoulder injury sustained in a friendly against Deportivo de La Coruña, worked with the group at El Requexón on Friday, though head coach Julián Calero confirmed he is not yet ready to play.
"Chaira's return adds to that of Estanis Pedrola, who continues to train with his teammates," Calero said in a press conference. The blue-and-whites, ninth in the Segunda División table with 14 points, are finalising preparations for their visit to bottom side AD Ceuta FC in the tenth league matchday.
Other players assessed
Friday's session also served to assess the fitness of Youness and Aisar. Both underwent physical tests, the results of which will determine their inclusion in the squad. Youness did not complete the session, while Aisar did gym work as a precaution. Their availability for Sunday remains pending a final evaluation. Forward Estanis Pedrola, meanwhile, continues on a specific training plan to regain full fitness after his injury.
Sparse squad for Calero
The coaching staff is managing an extensive injury list. Beyond Chaira, Ișfan is in the final stages of recovering from a muscle injury but is not yet training with the group. Brandon Domingues is training but has not received medical clearance. Chris Ramos, Juan Cruz, and Carlos Fernández remain sidelined with no immediate return in sight. This situation leaves Calero with limited options for a key match in Oviedo's pursuit of points to close the seven-point gap to leaders Almería.
The team arrives at the fixture off the back of a 3-1 win over Eibar, featuring a brace from top scorer Carlos Domínguez, who has three goals this season. Their form over the last five games is mixed, with three wins and two defeats (WLWLW). The match against Ceuta, the next on the fixtures list, presents an opportunity to pick up points away from home before the international break. Real Oviedo will travel to Ceuta after completing their final training session at El Requexón. The coach trusts the available squad, despite the absences, can maintain the positive momentum from the last home victory.
