Real Oviedo returned to training on Monday with their focus firmly on league leaders Almería. Julián Calero's squad completed a nearly two-hour session at the El Requexón facilities, following their weekly rest day on Sunday.
The session began with gym work before moving to the pitch, where a physical circuit programmed by fitness coach Fredy Valdés was completed. The final phase involved a ball possession drill without goals. Goalkeepers Aulestia and Alberto carried out specific exercises under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Tuero.
Injury progress
Among the positive news, several injured players completed the full physical workload with the group. Pelayo worked with his teammates before continuing with physiotherapist Manuel Barreto. Aitor Sanz also completed the same training as the rest of the squad. Players including Jandrín, Jandro and Joaquín Peña performed continuous running and gym exercises.
Preparation for the leaders
From tomorrow, the coaching staff led by Julián Calero will begin specific preparations for Saturday's match at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos. The manager is monitoring the progress of Estanis Pedrola and Illyas Chaira, though their availability for the fixture has not been confirmed.
The challenge is a significant one, with Almería sitting top of the Segunda División. Real Oviedo arrive in good spirits, however, on a two-game winning streak that has them ninth in the standings with 17 points. Their last victory came on Saturday against AD Ceuta (1-2), with goals from Samuel Rodríguez and Carlos Domínguez, the team's top scorer this season with four goals. The team now faces a key match to continue climbing the table, sitting seven points off the top spot.
The squad is scheduled to train again this afternoon at 18:30 at El Requexón as preparations for the trip to Almería continue. Saturday's match represents an important test for an Oviedo side that has taken six points from the last nine available, showing an upward trend in form. Julián Calero's team will have to manage 90 minutes of high intensity against the league leaders, an Almería side that has proven to be the most effective team in the category in this first part of the season. This afternoon's session will maintain the same work structure, combining physical preparation and ball work, all with the objective of the weekend's fixture in mind.
